The 5th annual meeting of the Southeastern Association of Shared Resources was held in Tampa, FL June 7 - 9.  The purpose of the SEASR meeting is to provide a regional forum for core directors and staff to meet and discuss the issues related to core facilities. The Bioexpression and Fermentation Facility is participating in a cancer reproducibility study in cooperation with Science Exchange and the Center for Open Science.  Many labs have been involved and a report from NPR suggests that there are problems with reproducing work done in the original study.  As described in the NPR report, previously, Amgen and Bayer had reported issues with reproducibility.  The Cancer Reproducibility Study was…

The Bioexpression and Fermentation Facility is pleased to announce the addition of new capabilities for its training lab.  TangenX recently donated a system capable of using 0.1 m2 membranes.  This system will be used for training students in the use of tangential flow filtration which is widely used in bioprocessing.  This system adds to the already wide array of equipment available in the training lab located in the Davison Life Sciences…

The Bioexpression and Fermentation Facility recently acquired the DasBox system from Eppendorf.  The system is capable of independently controlling 4 x 250 mL bioreactors. This new capability will the BFF to accelerate process development projects in cell culture.  Along with our Celligen 310 system we will be able to develop processes and scale to 40L within the facility.  Since both systems are stirred tank reactors, scaling will be more…
