BCMB Department Holds Retreat at Unicoi State Park

The department's biannual retreat was held at Unicoi State Park near Helen, Georgia, this year. A total of 88 faculty, graduate students, and research staff attended and participated in poster and oral presentations. There was also an opportunity to enjoy the park and interact with fellow students and staff.

Two poster winners and two oral presentation winners were named:

Poster Prize winners
Dong Eun Seo (Natalia Ivanova lab): Orphan nuclear hormone receptor NR2E1 in NSC maintenance and neuronal differentiation
Colin Howe (Mike Terns lab): Inhibition of CRISPR-Cas immunity by AcrIB3 – AcrIB5

Oral Presentation Prize winners
Neil Patel (Ryan Weiss lab): The non-canonical EZH2/TRIM28/SULF1 axis mediates heparan sulfate assembly and melanoma cell growth
Megna Tiwari (Chris West lab): O-fucosylation promotes stable expression of a nucleocytoplasmic protein in Toxoplasma gondii and can be detected by new antisera in other parasites and protists
