Image: The Biochemistry Undergraduate Society held its fourth annual symposium earlier this week. Students presented 14 posters and gave three talks at the April 18 event about their experiences in undergraduate research. Several prizes were awarded for Best Oral Presentation and Best Posters. Winners included: Oral presentation: Hannah Kemelmakher, "Large Animal Model of Acute Arthritis for Stem Cell-Based Regenerative Medicine" Posters: Tiffany Sirmans, "Reconstructing the Hexamer-Building Interface of C. Elegans UGDH to Affect UDP-Xylose Binding Affinity," and Wyatt Nechtman, "The Role of Intrinsic Disorder in Proteins" The department thanks the BUS executive committee for organizing the event, as well as the faculty and graduate students who judged the entries (Dr. Michael Adams, Dr. Natarajan Kannan, Dr. David Blum, Dr. Nadja Zeltner, Dr. Chris West, Aarya Venkat, and Dr. Amy Medlock for posters, and Dr. Michael Adang and Dr. Michael Pierce for oral presentations) and the students who attended.
