Image: Congratulations to Aarya Venkat, a Biochemistry PhD student who has been named one of 2019-2020 Future Faculty Fellows! His teaching philosophy is that science should be accessible to everyone, regardless of background and experience. To engage his students, he uses storytelling as a medium to provide context to difficult scientific topics, as well as humanize the scientists behind the discoveries. He believes this is an important method for bridging the gap between scientists and laymen. The Future Faculty Fellows Program (3FP), sponsored jointly by the Graduate School and the Center for Teaching and Learning, is a year-long professional development program that brings together 15 innovative and dedicated teaching assistants from across campus to talk about, reflect upon, and improve their teaching, while preparing them for the academic job market and the rigors of their first faculty positions.
