Image: A professor in the biochemistry and molecular biology department was recently awarded the title of distinguished research professor. Dr. Michael Tiemeyer, who is also associate director of the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center, was one of the five 2018 recipients. Tiemeyer researches glycans, cell surface carbohydrates, and their roles in cellular interactions. The title is awarded by the University of Georgia Research Foundation, which sponsors the Research Awards Program, and is given to faculty who are "internationally recognized for their original contributions to knowledge and whose work promises to foster continued creativity in their discipline," according to the university's Office of Research website.
