Image: Undergraduate student Jenna Scott placed third in the undergraduate category of the 2018 Capturing Science Contest. Scott's entry, Reabsorption: A Board Game for Life, "creatively applied her classroom learning from her Elements of Physiology course to a board game of the renal system," according to contest feedback. "The game requires players to choose from four different pieces, all of which are based on water consumption: water molecule, ice cube, kettle or water bottle. The goal is to not get reabsorbed and make it to the end of the system, which is incredibly hard, as Scott points out that '99% of filtrate is reabsorbed.'" Scott tied for third with Kelly Mayes, who produced "All that Crawl: An Anthropod-cast." Placing third earned Scott and Mayes $100. The contest, in its second year, received 36 submissions across STEM topics, and entries ranged from games and videos to photography and podcasts, and were judged on the ability to creatively explain a STEM concept with clarity and audience appeal.
