The Sisodia-Patel Prize for Research in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology recognizes a graduating senior majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology who intends to obtain a PhD and pursue a career in research and will attend graduate school in the coming year. The recipient is selected based on their research accomplishments and the number, scope, and impact of their research presentations and publications. This year's recipient is Matt Schmitt, a BCMB undergraduate with minors in Chemistry and Spanish. Matt studies the interactions between pathway enzymes in heme biosynthesis and decided to pursue a PhD after working in Dr. Amy Medlock's lab. Matt will enter the Chemistry PhD program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign this fall. Congratulations, Matt!
